Our staff is a group of kind, passionate, intelligent, talented, and fun individuals that really do enjoy spending time together when they are both in and out of the clinic. Get to know more about each member of the FCPAC team below!

Dr. Kurt Phillips

Owner, CEO, and Veterinarian

Professional and Personal
Dr. Phillips has a special interest in canine reproduction and English Bulldogs. He is a married father of two. His family includes Jenner, a Vizsla and Lex, a French Bulldog.

When he is not working with animals and running his record store, Square Cat Vinyl, Dr. Phillips loves to see live music and entertain guests in his home.

Dr. M. Elizabeth Shaw

Veterinarian

Dr. Shaw has a special interest in integrative medicine (acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, food therapy), pain management, and surgery. She is currently studying for certificates in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine and Veterinary Chinese Food Therapy.

She is a co-minion with her wife, Anne, for their FIV positive, black & white man cat, Davos. In her free time, she enjoys globetrotting, trying new breweries, cheering for the Indy Eleven, and attempting yoga.

Dr. Patricia Neyenhaus

Professional and Personal
Dr. Neyenhaus has a special interest in internal medicine, pain management, and client education. She comes to City Way Animal Clinics with many years of experience in emergency, specialty, and general practice.

She shares her home with her husband; three spirited children; a rescued Goldendoodle, Hagrid; and a brown tabby cat named Baymax. Outside of work, Dr. Neyenhaus enjoys spending time at her kids’ sporting events, visiting with family, camping, hiking, and reading.

Stephanie Baer

HR Director & Finance Director

Professional and Personal
Stephanie worked in the Criminal Justice field for over 20 years. Her jobs ranged from offering home based services, working in detention centers, being a probation officer, and running a medical records department for a treatment center. She decided to make a career change in order to pursue her love of animals and has been working for Dr. Kurt Phillips since 2012.

Stephanie and her husband, Will, share their home with their family of four cats: Gandalf the White, Dot, Nurgle J. Moose, and Pippen F. Took. They also have their beloved Great Dane, Jett, a rambunctious Beagle, Remi, and a Bichon named Buddy.

In Stephanie’s free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, training in martial arts, reading and playing the piano.

Ken Clarke

Ken moved to Indy in August of 2011, from Bloomington, IN, where he started his veterinary medicine career. For as long as he can remember, he has always been surrounded by animals – which bodes well for his love of dogs.

Ken has worked with Dr. Kurt Phillips since 2011 and was integral in the inception of our flagship facility, Mass Ave Animal Clinic, and has now helped establish all facilities that makeup the City Way Animal Clinics family. Beginning his journey as a Veterinary Assistant, Ken quickly grew into the Practice Director, overseeing all City Way facilities. His passion for community outreach, focus on team culture and deep care of animal wellness is heavily driven by the motivation and heartfelt care displayed by his City Way team members each and every day.

He and his husband, Mark, have two dogs: Augi, a French Bulldog, and Brooklin, a Boxer mix. In his free time, you can find him exploring his neighborhood of Fountain Square, traveling, working on his own health and fitness, or diving into a tech-blog!

Nicki Grider

Nicki comes to our clinic with over 16 years of veterinary experience. She has worked in a variety of positions and is very excited to be back in the veterinary industry.

Nicki lives in Beech Grove with her husband, Barney, daughter, Poppy, four dogs and two cats – it’s a full house! In her spare time, Nicki enjoys reading, watching Netflix, and playing and writing music.

Catherine Nichols

Catherine has been involved in the animal health world since 2011 and is very excited to be on the new team at Fountain Square! She lives on the south side with her “princess,” a husky mix named Luna. When not working, she loves traveling, volunteering and playing with her pup.

Joshua Swafford

Customer Service Representative

Josh’s love for animals began as a little boy, seeing his father work for Johnson County Animal Control as a deputy and assistant warden. Josh started working in Veterinary Medicine in 2014 with a low cost clinic and fell in love with the veterinary field. He soon went into general practice care, then emergency care services and specialty care in the ER. He’s worked in a wide variety of areas in the veterinary industry as both a customer service representative and assisting technicians and doctors with x-rays and surgeries.

In his spare time, Josh loves to travel with his partner, Stephen, escaping to the beach any chance they get! He also enjoys spending time with nieces and nephews and quiet nights at home in the hot tub. Josh and his partner share their home with an American Bulldog/Pitt Bull mix named Lincoln and 5 cats, Lola Zeus, Nigel, George, and Charlie.

Rachael Thompson

Rachael is an Indianapolis native and season ticket holder for Indy Eleven. She enjoys visiting craft breweries and listening to podcasts when she’s not working. A real trivia wizard, Rachael has competed in multiple Harry Potter trivia nights and has never lost! She lives with two rescued special needs Basset Hounds, Miles and Otter.

Ben King

Ben comes to City Way Animal Clinics with years of experience including having worked at the Purdue Small Animal Hospital for a time as an ER/ICU technician. He shares his home with his wife, Britnee, and their dog, Ava. He’s a huge fan of Dr. Pepper, rhinos, and 90’s tunes. When not caring for animals, he enjoys reading, writing, and gaming.

Jessica Wolfe

Jessica has been working in the veterinary field since 2010. After recently moving here from New Jersey, she wanted to continue her passion for pets. She resides in Fountain Square with her sister. Together they have a Maine Coon cat, Hailey, two Tortoises, Six and Sweat Pea, and a rescue rat, Cream.

When not at the clinic, Jessica enjoys reading, music, photography, and exploring downtown Indy.

Rylee Hubbard

Rylee has been working in the veterinary field since May 2016. Although she is relatively new to the industry, she is learning quickly and hopes to better her skills to help provide excellent care to every pet!

She shares her home in Irvington with a variety of fur (and not so furry) babies. She has a Pitbull, Jack; a cute mutt, Lottie; a feisty cat named Chicken; and Kilo, a lovely lizard. When she’s not working, Rylee likes to spend her time cooking, reading, hiking with her dogs, and traveling as often as she can!

Maria Stanfield

Maria started in veterinary medicine in high school as kennel staff and has now worked for 10 years as a Veterinary Assistant. She has a special interest in behavior and enjoys learning as much as she can about why animals do what they do. She lives with her husband, six cats, and a dog. In her free time, Maria enjoys reading, drawing, online gaming, yoga, and hiking.

Elizabeth Parrish

Elizabeth is a senior at Indiana University Bloomington studying Animal Behavior. Following undergraduate, she plans to apply to veterinary school to achieve her doctorate in veterinary medicine. Originally from Fort Wayne, Elizabeth currently lives in the Indianapolis area with her fiancé and two dogs. She loves spending her free time walking her dogs around downtown, hiking, or traveling to explore new places.

Michael Otto

Veterinary Assistant

Michael started his career in veterinary medicine in Bloomington in 2016.  He is the proud owner of two male cats, Mordecai and Cowboy, and loves animals of all shapes, sizes, and varieties.

He has an interest in all types of music and is involved in two different projects as a drummer. In his free time, he also enjoys skateboarding, hiking, or anything outside.
